
Hi Coconut, I Love You!
Ahhhh yes, coconut oil. I want to talk about the ingredient that nourishes your food, skin, hair, and more. I woke up excited to share this one with you because the facts, tips and tricks are definitely worth fan-girling about on your next #WinedownWednesday. Or how about making it the star ingredient in both diy skin masks and food for your next spa night with friends?
Let’s dive in.
Coconuts are one of the most important crops of the tropics and of course, it’s where coconut oil, a commonly used ingredient in our products, comes from. How can you make it? All you have to do is get the coconut meat out of the shell, cut it into pieces, and blend it with some moderately hot water. Run everything through a sieve, let that liquid sit in a bowl over night, then cook the layer of fat that forms for an hour on medium low. Sieve again to remove the charred bits and boom!
The benefits of coconut include healing wounds, antibacterial properties, reduces inflammation, moisturizes, and alongside its skin benefits the oil can be used for your next meal. The benefits for your body include lowering cholesterol, promoting blood sugar control, it does contain antioxidants, and can definitely help with heart health. I do feel like after informing you guys of this, I may find myself taking a bath in coconut water, while having a coconut mask on, while eating a coconut curry dish… and maybe a coconut cocktail in my hand? Oh yeah.
The way that coconut is able to have all these benefits to it is because it’s high in fat, contains fiber, and is extremely hydrating. It has protein, potassium, zinc, manganese, sugar, carbs, and more. I mean to say it’s nutritional is to say the least.
